Project "DireSnake Bomb"

  ASSEMBLY
Those couple of days, while cutting was being made, was spent on purposeful purchase of additional materials. A chromeplated pipe, plugs, bolts and black self-adhesive film have been bought in building shop “Builder”, light fan with thermal control (firm LUMINOUS) 80 mm diameter is bought in computer supermarket “KEY”, wires, buttons, switches and thermocontractable tube in “Micronics”. Casually having glanced in the department of cords I saw a set of ropes various in diameter and color.... the problem with the name, theme of the case and round of wires has been solved entirely and completely. I bought 4 meters of 20 mm rope in which in external yellow-red-blue-green “snake-like” braid there are a lot of kapron strings. I bought 4 meters more but this time 10 mm of a white-dark blue rope a little bit later.
Plastic was received in a couple of days as it was promised... though it was done with blunders - the office having made details of black plastic has forgotten about other part of the order:) So I had to be bored for half an hour while everything was quickly cut. After receiving details I started the assembly. For this purpose all reinforcing ribs have been pasted over with a black film that hidden some additional fixing elements like 30 mm screws. After assembly of the base on which motherboard and power unit will be set, I installed also the back panel. Process of installation of power unit and motherboard has already been worked out in the very first acryl case: brass columns tightly screwed in small round pieces of plastic, which from other side are strongly fixed to the board. In such appearance the board is installed in determined place, and the holes for sockets are marked with the help of painting adhesive tape. By means of a mini-drill (I use the unit from “STERN”), we cut out grooves, not forgotten about outputs for video and audio card. Then having spread glue accurately on free sides of plastic we quickly install the board on the necessary place, center it if necessary, and slightly press. Then it is necessary to unscrew a little bit fastening bolts on the board as due to possible warp the acryl disks can lie by not entire plane but with warp so loosening of bolts will allow to paste them more tightly. Roughly in the same way the power unit was installed which besides received the new case with installed 120-mm light fan which speed of rotation, by the way, is determined by the power unit.

After that, already assembled construction was fixed on supporting acryl plates, one side of which was pasted with a film. The top construction carrying the shelf of DVD-ROM is assembled and it is time to strengthen lateral disks.... and at that moment there happened misfortune. The minidrill began to work hardly, only with very high speed, with noise... and then it stopped at all. Perfunctory inspection revealed the reason – current-carrying brushes were completely ground off. I have not unfortunately means for purchasing the new ones at all, so it was necessary to recollect urgently some experience gained even in distant 1993 during upgrade of ZX-Spectum in Scorpion PRO. It was a nightmare; I had to burn the holes out with a thin awl heated on a gas torch and with heated knife to cut out many grooves and apertures! However, sandpaper and the same knife allowed hiding of that nightmare somehow. But in such way there was made the window for DVD, slot for card-reader and a video cable, apertures for control switches and plenty of mounting holes.

Noise isolation and something that fines!
Non-constructive thoughts about modding...

All began when one day my neighbour, he is Automatic Control Engineer, came and started to beg me to give him one diode. When I asked him why, he typed modding in a search engine. And it had a great effect on me. I was sick about it. Maybe there is nothing accidental in the world and this modding seed fell into good soil. All my life I was interested in design.
