   Mobile Rack
   Finally it is high time for normal installation of hard disk mobile rack. Use of mobile rack exactly and not just the hard disk - is a forced measure. The hard disk WD is characterized by nasty behavior and thermal mode of operation - because of controller board overheating there was its deformation and disconnection of contacts on the plugs of controller connection and electrics of sealed block. Why the company WD has done such a step - it is not known, in fact the other hard disks are made with use of loops. The given model of mobile rack is noted for its rather massive aluminium case of not only frames but also extractable block. However, three 40 mm coolers, due to blow the hard disk located inside, were rather noisy under 12V and also extremely badly carried out the task. The attempt to reduce voltage up to 5/7V was in vain: coolers started with difficulty and did not cope with the task at all. So, a new decision urgently needed. It is good that I don’t need to take mobile rack out frequently (I have one hard disk) and accordingly the cooling has been corrected. For this purpose mobile rack was trivially turned upside down, in the bottom part of extractable block there was made a window, in which there has been installed 50 mm HDD-cooler of Titan, directed precisely to the controller. The voltage of 7V occurred rather enough not only for silent work but also for normal cooling. For fixing of mobile rack to the middle couplings of the frame I used the strips of polycarbonate folded by angle and acryl straps for pressing to the case of mobile rack. It allowed not only to make a rigid but also vibration-independent suspension bracket. Besides between mobile rack and subwoofer there was formed about 10 mm of free space, which made completely impossible transfer of vibration from subwoofer. The IDE-cable has been accurately folded along the walls - it is somewhat better than making round. All unused wires have been hidden in the space between it and coupling at the power unit.

  Lateral surfaces.
  It is high time for external decoration of complete case. For this purpose I bought the sheet of mat cellular polycarbonate. In the same place I bought 5 meters of plain mirror film and two plastic angles 20х20 mm for installation of wall panels. Polycarbonate is rather good material, though for some reason it is not widespread among modders but it is rather frequently used in advertising production. Cutting was made between edges with a plain office knife. After that it was necessary only to cut accurately from the film the strips of 2 cm and to paste them on the panel in each centimeter. The drawing - logo for front panel under controls has been found in the site of tattoos, transferred by transfer paper on the film and cut out. Several strips of painting adhesive tape have been pasted on the place of its position on the panel, the cut drawing was attached and removal of already existing mirror strips with a small margin was made. Then it was necessary just to paste accurately the drawing trying not to allow formation of folds and bubbles. Using approximately same technology the text of the case name in two languages on the big lateral surfaces has been made. On the top panel as the most small-sized there should be put abbreviation – “LOL”:) Plastic angle has been accurately cut, joined in corners, pasted over with a film and fixed atop of the panels with the screws with wide head. So the problem of discrepancy of panels’ sides and decorative concealment of cracks has been solved. Control unit is inserted into the front panel in ready-made window and fixed with few bolts.
