Mod "Line-Of-Light"

  Subwoofer
Subwoofer... How many times I was criticized because of it in the forum – it is not easy to tell. Generally all of that led to the fact that electromagnetic field and vibration would smash the case into elements. Attempts to explain by rather poor quality of subwoofer and entire construction of the case were not successful. But it is trifles. Subwoofer was opened, which revealed more “developments” of the company AWE: control panel was not simply inserted in sidewall of Fiberboard-case, but it was installed by means of sealant made of bilateral adhesive tape and glued from within with ten grams of hot-melt glue. Fortunately, all wires run to the board on plugs so it was necessary just to take out all controls outside, having increased length of the wires and removed them in one flute of backplane. For best light diffusing inside the case the entire subwoofer was covered with a mirror film.

  Control
What was required to place in the front panel: USB, Power, Reset, on\off light, +5/+12V, rear fan, on\off sound, volume level, bass, voice, balance. All of this still required common style and appearance. For this purpose two identical buttons (steel, vandal-proof, low structure) and 3 big steel toggle switches have been bought. It was necessary to install switches designed for 220V as one of them should switch subwoofer on, and to find few absolutely identical toggle switches designed for different voltage was rather impossible. All elements of control are placed on acryl plates, and switches and toggle switches on the middle plate, and buttons on the front plate. It allowed more or less hiding of greatly protruding elements in comparison with rather low structure of buttons. The front plate was covered with the mirror film of general background of the case, with a small indent from elements. The back plate not only gave durability for all control device construction but also played the role of fixture to the frame of the case that was made with 2 steel angles.

Non-constructive thoughts about modding...

All began when one day my neighbour, he is Automatic Control Engineer, came and started to beg me to give him one diode. When I asked him why, he typed modding in a search engine. And it had a great effect on me. I was sick about it. Maybe there is nothing accidental in the world and this modding seed fell into good soil. All my life I was interested in design.
