Silent computer

Fanless \ Noiseless computer #1

The CPU heat block retension studs are fixed to the board with nuts and cardboard washers. Zalman RAM sinks were aditionally glued directly to VRM mosfets to improve their cooling even further. Choosing which mobo to buy, you should mind the disposition of elements around the CPU socket. It's better not to have any high elements along the board’s sides, because they will be a barrier for the heat pipes. In fact having capacitors in the way is not a catastrophe but it's much less time consuming to buy the right mobo than to machine a taller heat block.

And here is the cooler for the unknown microchip CD480107. I still don't know what it does, even the almighty Google wasn't able to provide any info, that's how "lucky" I am. Just imagine: I have finished everything, everything works, the tests report super low temperatures, but… the computer freezes just in 15-20 minutes! I had such troubles during a week or so. I almost came to disassembling everything, luckily there was no spare time. It sounds like a joke but the chip actually never became too hot - +50 C at least.

And in the end I’d like to brag of my fanless computer. It's absolutely inaudible, you can’t even hear the hard drive seek noise. There was never a need to brush the case from dust during all these six months. Earlier I had to clean my Zalman 7700 once a month.  I’m not afraid of an unexpected death of my processor due to a failure of a cheap “Made in China” cooler. The computer was working round the clock during these six months (except the two week’s vacation). The overclocking potential is good, much better than it was when the 7700 did the cooling. Do you like my rig? Just take up your tools and make such a wonder yourself following our recommendations. Believe me, it is really worth the trouble!

Non-constructive thoughts about modding...

All began when one day my neighbour, he is Automatic Control Engineer, came and started to beg me to give him one diode. When I asked him why, he typed modding in a search engine. And it had a great effect on me. I was sick about it. Maybe there is nothing accidental in the world and this modding seed fell into good soil. All my life I was interested in design.
