Fanless \ Noiseless computer #1

North bridge cooling (heatpipes and one of the blocks were sourced from a ZM80D-HP VGA cooler). Looking simple at first glance the task turned out to be very complicated. Firstly the i945 is really VERY HOT. When we tried to cool it with only one heatpipe (which worked for i915) the chip overheated in 10 minutes, and only well-timed power cut-off saved it from eternal Nirvana. Secondly, the chip’s surface area is very little and it is very easy to damage it during heat block installation. The crystal is only 10*12 mm and it is really complicated to get close abutment of the heat block. I must say, It is the MOST tricky part of all building process. Followers, be very careful with this bridge, please! Better consult me before starting the mod, motherboards are not that cheap.

South bridge cooling. Everything is very easy and clear from the picture. It is enough to use only one thin heat pipe. The system consists of two copper waste ends and one 5 mm pipe ripped from a Zalman 2HC2 HDD cooler. The block on the hot end is fastened with a self-machined aluminum plank using stock retention holes.

Non-constructive thoughts about modding...

All began when one day my neighbour, he is Automatic Control Engineer, came and started to beg me to give him one diode. When I asked him why, he typed modding in a search engine. And it had a great effect on me. I was sick about it. Maybe there is nothing accidental in the world and this modding seed fell into good soil. All my life I was interested in design.
