Fanless \ Noiseless computer #1

Here is how the video card is cooled. Three heat pipes take heat from the chip and pass it to the heatsink wall (you must have already recognized where the parts came from - Tt Big Typhoon CPU cooler). An overkill for my X800GTO16, as it had turned out, but that's no problem: a reserve is always welcome, especially considering future upgrades (well, I like to have everything on the safe side). There's not a single fan in my rig but almost all parts stay at temps that can put many actively cooled systems to shame. At 20C ambient the CPU temp doesn't exceed 35 degrees Celsius. That's what 40 kilograms of aluminum can do!

The video card is also slightly modified. It has aluminum plates screwed to it on both sides to cool the memory chips and power mosfets. Coils are cooled by glued on stock VGA RAM sinks.

This is what one sees when one of the side sinks is undone. The coupling is very rigid and it allows to heavily bind the sink to the base. Eight M6 screws, 30 mm deep thread cut through the base. Copper CPU and NB heat blocks are joined to the base. All the adjoining surfaces are lapped in by hand. KPT-8 thermal grease (most widely used in Russia, slightly less efficient than Arctic Silver) is used as a TIM.

My reliable computer..
Non-constructive thoughts about modding...

All began when one day my neighbour, he is Automatic Control Engineer, came and started to beg me to give him one diode. When I asked him why, he typed modding in a search engine. And it had a great effect on me. I was sick about it. Maybe there is nothing accidental in the world and this modding seed fell into good soil. All my life I was interested in design.
