Silent hard disk in cardboard box

Now we can fix the disk to radiator. Pay attention to the cooler plate thickness. It is selected in accordance with our description in previous articles. Now it’s high time to devote ourselves to making radiator hanger. The radiator hanger performs two functions: prevents vibration transmission from hard disk to computer case, and prevents heat transmission from hotter computer case to hard disk radiator (hard disk heats up significantly less in silent computers with case-radiator). Rubber is an ideal material for such hanger. In other words, we need some rubber fitting sufficient enough for holding two-kilogramme radiator with hard disk.
In search of rubber fitting I went to a big auto shop, but I didn’t find anything appropriate there… Having come home I decided to adapt cuts of standard rubber hose for that reason.

As can be seen from the picture, a cut of a thin hose is inserted into the ring of a thicker hose.

This unsophisticated construction is put on a long screw-bolt and run through two angle bars.

The construction is fixed with a screw-nut through rubber washers:) The angle bars are turned to radiator with M3 screws. The construction is simple and fast to do, at the same time it is solid and safe.

Screw hard disk to radiator and… enjoy wonderful clang… This is the misunderstanding; we’ve made such a construction and have to listen to the strange clang…

Non-constructive thoughts about modding...

All began when one day my neighbour, he is Automatic Control Engineer, came and started to beg me to give him one diode. When I asked him why, he typed modding in a search engine. And it had a great effect on me. I was sick about it. Maybe there is nothing accidental in the world and this modding seed fell into good soil. All my life I was interested in design.
