Silent computer
Silent hard disk in cardboard box
I’ve been cunning a bit speaking about the “strangeness”… Still two month ago my assistant told that the clang disappeared when he touched the device with a palm. At that time we made first suggestions concerning the nature of the vibration. But at that moment my device worked properly, nothing clanged and I didn’t analyze this problem thoroughly. And now I place my palm on the device – now clangs, now doesn’t clang… Capricious thing… Solution has come itself. I cut a plate of radiator size out of 6 mm aluminium sheet and glue it in such way that it touches all fins of radiator and damps the fins’ vibration. I degrease radiator and plate with acetone; mix epoxy with plasticizer and smear with it the end surface of every radiator fin. Then I lay down the plate and put a small weight on it. Test the operation of the silent hard disk after tar polymerization and establish complete victory over the clang.

Non-constructive thoughts about modding... |
All began when one day my neighbour, he is Automatic Control Engineer, came and started to beg me to give him one diode. When I asked him why, he typed modding in a search engine. And it had a great effect on me. I was sick about it. Maybe there is nothing accidental in the world and this modding seed fell into good soil. All my life I was interested in design.
