Motherboard chipset backlight

We gave backlighted a lot of different things! Bu I don’t remember such modding of chipset… In this way you can backlight any other chip or component part of motherboard. As a matter of fact, the modding is simple and can be completed in one evening even by the beginner… Finally you get a beautiful and original backlight. Let’s start from the very beginning…
We need:
- light diodes,
- limiting resistor,
- a drill and boring bits,
- soldering unit of CH class (with fan),
- n-channel oscillograph with memory,
- four BNY4589 diodes of planar type,
- micro soldering iron

For the chipset backlight we made a thin frame of double-sided glass-cloth laminate. It’s important that it would be double-sided; otherwise the construction components will be translucent after the light diodes unsoldering. It’s better to think over the diodes power and their colour in advance reasoning from the computer design.

There is no need to dismount radiator for marking and mounting of the backlight. Moreover, radiator demounting is difficult and you may damage the chip. Mark a rectangular hole for the chipset radiator.

Cut out a textolite frame by means of a dremel, a drilling machine and a file.

Make five cuts in the foil by means of broach file as it is shown in the picture.

Solder the planar diodes and energy wire to appropriate places. The light diodes of planar type, i.e. unpackaged, are highly sensitive to overheating. Use a soldering iron of appropriate power.

We used four Chinese noname light diodes; they operate trouble-free in series connection at 12 volt. If we used one-sided textolite, the cuts in the foil would be translucent.

That’s all, the modding is finished. In this way it’s possible to backlight any chip on motherboard. One must not impair heat exchange mode of the chips while making such backlights. In other words nothing must hinder convection or air current. Only minor disturbance is possible…

I wish everyone good modding SilentMods.com

Non-constructive thoughts about modding...

All began when one day my neighbour, he is Automatic Control Engineer, came and started to beg me to give him one diode. When I asked him why, he typed modding in a search engine. And it had a great effect on me. I was sick about it. Maybe there is nothing accidental in the world and this modding seed fell into good soil. All my life I was interested in design.
