Making of furnace for metal melt at home.

It’s deplorable but search of piece of copper for a hydro block or another article may become a problem. Strange as it may appear but nonferrous metal dealers don’t want to make advances to overclockers and sell the metal only wholesale. In the plants it’s difficult to get necessary metal as well... So, where is it possible to get this metal? There is one old means: to smelt it. We won’t mine iron ore like our ancestors but find an old transformer, electric motor, or go to the nearest receiving point of nonferrous metals.
In this article I’ll describe the process of manufacture of a small furnace suitable for copper, silver and aluminium articles founding.

metal melt

1. Casing. Shape is not important; it may be cylindrical, or rectangular. Compulsory condition is that casing must be steel and strong. I used for that purpose an old powder-type fire extinguisher with sides of 1.5 mm thickness. I sawed it apart with an angle grinder, screwed loops, drilled holes for fasteners and wires. It’s necessary to solder or screw a kind of armature inside the lid to provide better holding of refractory putty.

 2. Heater. There are no problems with heater. The most important thing here is a good Fechral wire (it holds up to 1400 gr, nichrome wire is not suitable). I used Megapir 2000 alloy, 27U5 is also suitable. Base is also important. The ideal variant is alundum crucible; you may also use quartz or ceramic (it’s worse) crucible. I reeled straight on it; it’s necessary to observe 1 mm gap between the winds. Resistance must be near 40 ohm, it’s underwritten. The outlets are made of the same double-stranded wire. To tell the truth you will not succeed at first, there must be a skill; moreover hands get tired. Fastening of winding edges is another story; we make it of the same wire. It looks in the following way.

Non-constructive thoughts about modding...

All began when one day my neighbour, he is Automatic Control Engineer, came and started to beg me to give him one diode. When I asked him why, he typed modding in a search engine. And it had a great effect on me. I was sick about it. Maybe there is nothing accidental in the world and this modding seed fell into good soil. All my life I was interested in design.
