How to cut a window in a computer.

This question is always often asked in our forum, that’s why I decided to write a special guide for modding beginners, because it's not a question for specialists. Yes, it's some kind a tradition that modding begins with a window in a computer... All modders pass this stage...
I’ll start with a small a small FAQ. The case of a computer is made of soft, cold-rolled steel, which is from 0.4 to 1.2mm thickness. The cheapest case you have the thinner steel is in it and if it is rather thin it would be difficult for you to cut it. You should take into account that after modding case side loose its hardness and could start buzzing and wobbling.
Before you start cutting, think over the position and the place of a hole. Make a cardboard model, fit it on your computer, and try to imagine how it will look with lighting... I strongly recommend you to think for few days looking at a model. And remember that you can't buy separate case sides if you damage yours.
Let’s begin…
The first and the easiest method to cut a window is to use dremel. We’ve already written what dremel is and how to cut with its help. Because of spindle high speed the cutting edge is smooth and accurate.

This device has only one disadvantage – its price. The cheapest one costs 80-90$. But when you buy it you should take into account not only the device’ price, expendable materials are rather expensive too. For example one metal disk costs 1.5$ and you'll need five disks to make one hole. It's not very expensive, but keep it in mind.

If you don’t have dremel you can cut a window with an electric carvers-knife. When working with steel you need a special saw with serration, it is called - "metal".
Mark the contour of a planning window. To start cutting you should drill a hole to tuck into a carvers-knife. Then drill. Use medium speed and the low saw motion on a carvers-knife (read the carving-knife manual if you don't know how to do it). Not to scratch the case side stick paint adhesive tape on it(you can buy one in a household items store), put it to a flat surface and start cutting. Slowly, don’t push it, but press the case to workbench and hold carvers-knife accurately.

Non-constructive thoughts about modding...

All began when one day my neighbour, he is Automatic Control Engineer, came and started to beg me to give him one diode. When I asked him why, he typed modding in a search engine. And it had a great effect on me. I was sick about it. Maybe there is nothing accidental in the world and this modding seed fell into good soil. All my life I was interested in design.
