Silent computer

Home-made case for fanless computer.

Finally we have four sheets with ideally plain end surfaces; we can assemble the box of future case.
To avoid unpleasant surprises, do the marking always on a clean and plain surface. Thus, mark the openings, punch them, drill the holes, thread… there is nothing interesting and difficult here. We have already written about threading. It’s necessary to be accurate threading such soft and tough metal, use a sharp tap and oil by all means. Remove the shavings from the tap with a worn tooth-brush after each cut. Taking into account my case size of 280*280*270 mm I used M5 bolts, three bolts for each edge, the depth of thread was 15 mm. I’ve got a solid and producible box in the result. And it didn’t take much time. Leaping ahead, I can say that making the box took me one day only.., plus one more day on the sides cleaning and one more day on… I’ll tell about this later…

  Drill. Thread. Fasten with bolts.

Front side will be moveable sideways. It’s handy to use guides from furniture boxes, you can buy them of any size and length in a household or construction market. The guides are made on ball bearings, they move softly and nicely… We need only two angle bars to mount them.

Unfortunately I must make two cuts for the skid in the sidewall of the case…

I fasten a piece of acrylic plastic instead of the door for testing.

Non-constructive thoughts about modding...

All began when one day my neighbour, he is Automatic Control Engineer, came and started to beg me to give him one diode. When I asked him why, he typed modding in a search engine. And it had a great effect on me. I was sick about it. Maybe there is nothing accidental in the world and this modding seed fell into good soil. All my life I was interested in design.
