Self-made cooling of video adapter elements

As a rule video adapter cooling doesn’t go beyond installing a cooler on processor and glueing small radiators to memory chip. This is quite reasonable but not the best approach from my point of view.
We’ll not apply to GPU because it’s almost impossible to invent something new here. Let’s pay special attention to the memory and integral supply controller (this is a three-legged chip which looks like a transistor).

Voltage regulators

I’d like to say in the beginning that glue is an uncertain substance: it can stick tightly and create in that way a serious problem with following sale of the expensive card as well as peel off suddenly, the consequences are evident…And it’s extremely difficult to glue something to awfully heating chips because of their tiny size. I solved this problem in the following way. I’d like to mention that the method set forth below is not right for all video adapters. This modding can be applied only to the video adapters having necessary number of mounting holes. I remind to sharp-witted users that it’s not admissible to make holes in computer cards on your own. The technique was tried on the card X800GTO16 from PowerColor.

At first cut patterns out of heavy paper. We’ll use them later for sawing radiators out of aluminium plate. Approach to this operation with high thoroughness, taking into account assemblage relief, mounting holes, chips height and sticked out capacitors.

Non-constructive thoughts about modding...

All began when one day my neighbour, he is Automatic Control Engineer, came and started to beg me to give him one diode. When I asked him why, he typed modding in a search engine. And it had a great effect on me. I was sick about it. Maybe there is nothing accidental in the world and this modding seed fell into good soil. All my life I was interested in design.
