Silent computer

Our answer to Zalman: 0dBA project, rev.1

And I had some experience: it appeared that even the most effective cored pipes made of copper powder shouldn't be positioned with "cold" end down.
But there one problem still existed: I didn’t know what to do with the HDD’s. I have two of them in my computer and they produced noise, though I have soft mounting and several layers of noise insulation. Firstly I wanted to make a construction named "bitumen box", which was shown on a silenthardware.de forum. HDD is placed in a solid box with noise insulation and heat is conducted with heat pipes to the external radiator. But in my case I needed to place this radiator out of the case so it would be too hard to make. When I was thinking over this variant suddenly one of my HDD’s broke with all information that it contained. I needed free disk space badly (the second HDD had only 2 GB), so I decided to use Seagate HDD from a notebook. When I turn on the computer with a new HDD… 2.5" Momentus was noiseless and it got hot very slow and I can use noise insulation without cooling it. But I had to buy adaptor to use it. That's where the story of Noise0db Project begins. Week later I took a leave from work and started working.

II. From parts to the whole.
When I started working I had:
- The case, 1 piece. I found it on a scrapheap some months ago; it’s a no-name can. It’s rusty and with a broken side (I washed and made it true), but it’s free.
- Power supply without a cooler, my own make, 1 piece.
- Big radiators, 3 pieces, I used only one.
- Small radiator (for video card), 1 piece.
- ZM-2HC2 pipes, 6 pieces. They were left after BP pacification.
- TNN500 pipes, 2 pieces. I had four of them but I broke two, trying to straighten them.
- 6 mm aluminum sheet and different blocks. I couldn’t find copper.
And, of course, hardware:
AthlonXP 2100+ (Palomino, 72W)
Gigabyte 7VTX (KT266)
1 GB DDR2700
Radeon X800Pro
20 GB Seagate Momentus

Rather strange configuration, but I had no variants. And I needed to make one construction from all these pieces. I used Numano’s experience in making components scheme…

Non-constructive thoughts about modding...

All began when one day my neighbour, he is Automatic Control Engineer, came and started to beg me to give him one diode. When I asked him why, he typed modding in a search engine. And it had a great effect on me. I was sick about it. Maybe there is nothing accidental in the world and this modding seed fell into good soil. All my life I was interested in design.
