Modding
Modding server 1U
Thus, let’s proceed to making the front panel of server. Intel case is made of thin metal with small rivets and still is unsteady in spite of the reinforcement ribs that I have made. Theoretically, you can not give a toss about this unsteadiness like the manufacturer of the case, but I decided to add one more reinforcement rib – to make a solid front panel of 3 mm metal. For the sake of processing simplicity I take a cold-rolled sheet of alloyed steel and cut the workpiece of appropriate size with the help of angle grinder. I don’t leave any allowance because the material is rather tough and processing it with a file will not give much pleasure.
This is my work place :) Oh, it’s a good shot as well: workbench with angle grinders and sledge-hammers on it looks touching… This is my garage, by the way…
I grip the workpiece in vice, set a disk into the grinder and cut along the outline.

Non-constructive thoughts about modding... |
All began when one day my neighbour, he is Automatic Control Engineer, came and started to beg me to give him one diode. When I asked him why, he typed modding in a search engine. And it had a great effect on me. I was sick about it. Maybe there is nothing accidental in the world and this modding seed fell into good soil. All my life I was interested in design.
