Modding server 1U
I mark and drill mounting holes. What a wonderful shot I’ve got! An ancient instrument against the background of high technologies :)
This picture illustrates how I made the holes for wires. I used components of a disassembled laser printer HP.., these guys are experts in electronics. Reinforcement ribs came out good; owing to them the case has become steadier.
You might have surmised that I bought another power unit. 400 W Zippy cost 150 dollars.
This Zippy looks nice, has light aluminium case, keeps voltage well, it has plenty of wires and they are long enough. That is how I can characterize it. The case of the power unit is sealed up and has a three-year warranty, that’s why I decided not to get inside it and look at the construction.
You can see the fitting of the power unit and wire arrangement. Wires are bunched, fastened to the case and placed in plastic passage clamps.
These are side skids like those of kitchen furniture but longer and with fitting for server stand.

|Non-constructive thoughts about modding...
All began when one day my neighbour, he is Automatic Control Engineer, came and started to beg me to give him one diode. When I asked him why, he typed modding in a search engine. And it had a great effect on me. I was sick about it. Maybe there is nothing accidental in the world and this modding seed fell into good soil. All my life I was interested in design.
